NBA Opening Night Re-Introduces Elements To NBA 2K21 We’ve Nearly Forgotten About

Basketball fans all over the world are thrilled to see the NBA regular season beginning on Tuesday night. NBA 2K fans and likely some of the folks who work on the game have reason to celebrate as well.

The start of the season will reconnect the game and the real-life sport in a way that we haven’t been able to enjoy for nearly a year.

MyTeam Moments Cards
The MyTeam mode is largely powered by what is ideally a steady diet of content 2K adds over the course of each versions’ life cycle. A good deal of that content comes from real-life NBA events.

I’m speaking specifically about the Moments cards which are generated when someone in the NBA goes off for a huge performance that warrants a specific card designed to reflect the player’s brilliance in that game.

Because 2K didn’t produce Moments card during Bubble games, we should probably be set to see the first new additions to this theme in nearly a year.

It’s possible someone from the Golden State Warriors vs. Brooklyn Nets or Los Angeles Clippers vs. Los Angeles Lakers could trigger the first set of Moments cards. Will it be Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving, Steph Curry, Kawhi Leonard, Paul George, LeBron James, or Anthony Davis that secure the first Moments cards?

Roster Updates
The aspect of sports video games that we may take for granted the most is roster updates. Well, when there are no games, there is nothing to update.

Because last season and playoffs came to an end at such an odd time, we didn’t get to see the sort of 2K updates that usually accompany the last few months of the regular and postseason.

We should see this come back to normal beginning with the start of the New Year.

MyNBA Start Today
The MyNBA mode has been a disappointment for the first month of the game’s release cycle on next-gen consoles. However, 2K pushed hard to get a last-minute patch in that corrected most of the mode’s problems.

There are still some lingering issues with MyNBA Online games, and I came across a crash while scrolling through a custom roster in a completely rebranded league, but almost 100 percent of what was promised has been delivered. It’d at least playable for most, but the MyNBA online crowd is still getting the short end of the stick until 2021.

One feature many have been waiting to access is the Start Today option. With the NBA starting on Tuesday night, we should see this open up soon and users will be able to pick up their favorite team’s journey at any point.

2K was a sports game without a real-life counterpart for months. On Tuesday, this get back to some level of normalcy.
