Rocket League 3v3 Strategy Guide

Wednesday, July 26, 2017 6:34:05 PM America/Los_Angeles

There are two ways to play aggressive 3v3: Solo standard or even the customary 3v3.

Steak standard just groups solo players into two teams of three. It's usually the least popular competitive playlist in the game. Most people jump right into the usual 3v3 that permits players within a party. But Solo standard is a good way to meet fellow Rocket League compatriots and build your friends list.

If you've got the friends to play with, it is better to play 3v3 with these friends because of the valuable communication that has been mentioned in 2v2.

BASIC STRATEGIES

Even once you have an additional car on the area, don't send more than 1 individual to the initial strike. Be sure to communicate so everybody is on the same page. 3v3 is the perfect spot to use the competitive face-off strategy that was discussed in the 2v2 section. Send one person for the first strike and lock up the ball at the center. Send the next teammate right on the tail of the first player to strike the dead ball on the opposing goal. This is a much less risky move in 3v3 because the third participant has your goal guarded in case it doesn't work out like it's drawn up. That also means the achievement rate is lower, since the opposing team has someone in goal, too.

AGGRESSIVE VS DEFENSIVE

Like every other mode in Rocket League, there is an aggressive strategy to 3v3 along with a defensive strategy. The competitive approach fires on all cylinders. All three players are on offense at all times. This has its benefits, but rules have to be followed to pull off it.

In 3v3, it is all about team chemistry. That is true when it comes to players that are beginning all the way into the pro levels. Get comfortable with your two other players. Try out the 2 strategies.

It is all a procedure. Be patient throughout the losses, and also working the process should lead to wins.

AGGRESSIVE 3V3

If you have been following along, they rely on the same basic rules of teamwork: Don't bunch, communicate and be ready for the pass.

1 person should be responsible for centering the ball while the two teammates are ready for the one-timer. Passes into the center are not always sure things. Usually they overlook or are blocked before they get in front of the goal. Having two players ready to choose the shot is far better than one. Another player is ready for backup in the event the initial shot misses. This can be a significant help with rebounds off the post and crossbar.

The disadvantage to an aggressive style of play is clear. There's nobody getting your team's back on defense. Occasionally, a ball may fire off the wall along with the opposing team takes an easy breakaway to the house.

DEFENSIVE 3V3

Then there's the other side of the coin: defensive play. Simply send two players on crime and maintain 1 player as a designated defenseman.

This doesn't indicate that you will need to keep somebody in goal the entire time. If somebody is seated in goal, that player is simply a component in 20-30 percent of the game. Instead, the defenseman can play up to about midfield.

The defenseman is there to keep the ball on offense. Just remain in line with the ball at around midfield when the 2 strikers are going to work on offense. After the ball gets near midfield, knock down it toward the opposing goal. Drop back to goal if another team gains control.

Be careful to not get too far away from the goal.

KNOW WHEN TO SWITCH STRATEGIES

Adjust your strategy based on how the match is going. Try out an aggressive strategy at first. When it's going well, stick with it. If you're getting crushed by runaway breakaways, drop 1 player back nearer to the goal for defense. If you go up by one goal with a minute left, it can make sense to send somebody to be a fulltime goalie just to be safe.
