'NBA 2K18' Will Feature All-Time Teams And 16 New Classic Squads

Sunday, August 13, 2017 6:43:42 PM America/Los_Angeles

NBA 2K respects the history of this sport it simulates more than any other game in the genre. That homage to classic players and teams will continue using NBA 2K18.

Feb NBA 2K's official Twitter account, NBA 2K18 will comprise all-time teams for all 30 associations and 16 additional classic teams. There were already 47 classic teams ranging from the 1964-65 Boston Celtics into the 2016 Team USA squad.

The 16 new classic teams will run the total to a whopping 63. That is impressive by itself, but the actual crown jewel in this new statement is the 30 all-time teams. For the previous three decades, I've manually produced a similar roster with a bevy of players that were created and legends which were loaded into the match.

This year, I won't have to put in the job--at least not as much. A lack of licensing rights is bound to make a few gaps. Players such as the Washington Wizards' Gilbert Arenas, Phoenix Suns' Charles Barkley, Indiana Pacers' Reggie Miller and others may be omitted for a Number of reasons.

The good news is that the all-time teams will be completely editable and useable in MyGM and MyLeague. Erick Boenisch, the man behind those modes, confirmed this information through email soon after the announcement was made.

Meticulous roster founders like myself will still add desirable players to the roster, but it is great to get that base in the game. Madden was able to get something similar years ago, but we have not seen this concept in any sports movie game for awhile.

We don't know which players made each roster. That show will be interesting and it should come over the next few weeks as we move nearer to the September 15 launch date. Fans like to debate player ratings, you can bet there'll be more banter about the inclusions and omissions from the all-time teams.

Stay tuned for more data on the all-time teams and new classic squads as it becomes available.

OAKLAND, CA - APRIL 13: By defeating the Memphis Grizzlies, the Golden State Warriors win their 73rd game this year, setting the record for the most games won during the NBA regular season. The Warriors team that place the single-season record for wins fell short of the championship goals, but they still deserve to be recognized for their achievement. The Steph Curry for this team ought to be rated a 99 overall. He won his second straight league MVP in what's become the best statistical year of his already Hall-of-Fame career. And it also has Harrison Barnes and Andrew Bogut.

Curry led the league in scoring, steals and free-throw percentage at 30.1, 2.1 and 91 per cent, respectively. He shot 50 percent from the field despite taking 11.4 threes per night, draining 45 percent of his shots from heavy. He was an absolute cheat code. The team also had Harrison Barnes and Andrew Bogut, which distinguishes it in last year's title-winning club.

MIAMI, FL - MAY 30: Paul George #24 of the Indiana Pacers manages the ball against LeBron James #6 of the Miami Heat in the first quarter during Game Five of the Eastern Conference Finals at AmericanAirlines Arena on May 30, 2013 at Miami, Florida. These Pacers could not topple the Heatles, but a 22-year-old Paul George pushed Miami to seven games in the Eastern Conference Finals. George Hill, David West and Roy Hibbert helped George as well as the Pacers play blistering defense. The team allowed only 90.7 points per game that season and arrived 48 minutes away from an NBA Finals berth.

The nation began to comprehend how good George was and could become in this head-to-head battle with James.

The biggest "what-if" team in recent memory needs become the 2011-12 Oklahoma City Thunder.

Throw in a 22-year-old Serge Ibaka who blocked 3.7 shots per game and also a 21-year-old Reggie Jackson and you can envision the gift in this locker room. This young bunch reached the NBA Finals before being turned off by LeBron, Dwyane and Chris' Heat. Harden, Jackson, Ibaka, and Durant would depart, but oh what might have been.
