Perhaps the greatest new feature that has Madden fans most fascinated is target passing. Madden School has you covered. We are on top of all of the hottest Madden 18 news and notes. Nowadays, we're breaking down Madden 18's objective passing controls.

Target Passing Controls

Rex Dickson, EA Madden NFL Gameplay Director, has been making the rounds talking about Madden 18's newest features and gameplay improvements. Recently, whilst streaming reside Twitch, Dickson broke down Madden 18's target passing controls for fans. We have not really had a chance to see real gameplay footage to this point--besides the few minutes of gameplay video footage out of the EA Play event. Regardless, here is a fairly easy breakdown of Madden 18's objective passing controls and other alterations into the game.

Pre-Snap

Bring up your coaches cam (R Trigger/R2). You will have to put the main WR on the drama by pressing the button that corresponds with that particular receiver (i.e. X or O or even R1/RB). Once you've selected a primary WR, you are prepared to snap the ball.

Post-Snap

Following the QB takes the snap, hold down Left Trigger/L2 to bring your target icon--this seems similar to the way you used to bring the vision up cone/windows from the much older versions of Madden. The goal icon will come up near the region of the principal WR you chose and finally set during your pre-snap browse.

You will not be able to modify your main WR after you snap the ball. When you place the main WR and snap on the ball, then you won't have the ability to switch to a different intended target. That makes your task as the QB particularly tough when deciding to use the new target passage feature.

Throwing the Pass

Now you're prepared to toss your targeted pass to the WR.

As the play progresses, you transfer the goal icon across the field, freely, utilizing the perfect Stick to guide the target icon to the spot where you would like to throw the pass. All while you are still holding down the Left Trigger/L2. Then, you're ready to throw your pass.

When you release the pass, you will throw the ball into the spot where you have placed the objective icon. It follows that precision, expertise, and a firm understanding of the WR's route will soon be secrets to mastering the new target death feature.

It also usually means that your QB's ratings will play a much larger role in successfully employing the objective passing attribute. A QB's thrust force will carry more weight with target passing. The better the cast power rating, the quicker your ball will achieve your targeted area. Don't be perplexed on the amount of difficulty that target death presents to gamers.

During a recent interview, Dickson spoke about the struggles of this new target death attribute. "It's tough, and it's meant to be utilized by very experienced players," Dickson said.

Dickson later remarked, "and you'll get sacked and throw interceptions utilizing the objective passing if you do not understand how to utilize it"

Do I have to use Target Passing?

To describe, you do NOT need to use the new target passing attribute in Madden 18. You may still use the older, conventional passing commands, but with a couple of minor changes. Target passing, you may have noticed, uses the exact buttons as the high-low pass placement feature from the past two years. That usually means that the controls to get high-low pass positioning changed this year.

New High-Low Passing Controls

To cast positioning passes to your intended receiver, then you will hold LB/L1 to enable the high-low departure. Then you will use the left stick to actually place the pass in which you desire it, either high or low. When you move to throw the ball, then you'll take the LB/L1 down the entire time, then move the pole up if you wish to throw a lift shirt, or move the left stick when you wish to cast low. Dickson and other developers in EA claim the newest high-low passing controls should be less complicated given you only need to use one button to put both low and high passes.

Other Changes, Improvements to Passing Game Controls

The QB prevention stick was done for Madden 18. Alternatively, you'll have to move the QB around using your sticks to avoid sacks. Meaning, you'll need to work with your own pocket awareness Madden enthusiasts. Utilizing the prevention stick in the last two versions of Madden has been definitely an acquired ability to begin with.

Moreover, there were only a couple of QB's that could always shake a sack employing the avoidance rod--Cam Newton. You had to be able to look downfield while maintaining an eye on any defenders who might be closing in. Then you had to time that the avoidance stick almost perfectly to have some chance for success.

That just about does it for our breakdown of this new target death controls. Surely, there are loads of other new gameplay features, new controllers, and gameplay debugs in Madden 18. But we will break them down for you at a subsequent article.
