Barcelona holds a comfortable 4-1 first leg advantage over Espanyol heading into the second leg of the Round of 16 of Copa del Rey on Wednesday. If they are to advance, as expected, into the quarterfinal, it will be without one of their biggest stars.
On Friday, the Spanish Football Federation handed Luis Suarez a two-game suspension for clashing with Espanyol players in the tunnel after the match. While we don't have video of what happened inside the tunnel, we do have this footage during the game that shows Suarez berating Espanyol keeper Pau Lopez (who at one point stomped on Lionel Messi's leg during the high-tempered match) which shows him asking the keeper how many titles he had compared how many the Uruguayan striker has since joining Barca in 2014. Check it out.
Suarez was only given a yellow card during the match and the La Liga giants deny any wrongdoing. They are expected to appeal the suspension. The club released the following statement following the announcement of his suspension:
"In the appeal, FC Barcelona is expected to argue that the player, as he later stated, did not use the allegedly offensive words that were attributed to him in the referee's official notes following the match."
Should the suspension hold, Suarez would miss the second leg on Wednesday, and potentially the opening leg of the quarterfinal round, should Barca advance as expected.
