Guard Kevin Martin has been signed by the San Antonio Spurs, the team announced Wednesday. They waived forward Rasual Butler to make room for him.
This move has been for some time in the works, and it gives more firepower to San Antonio. This is a fine luxury for a tournament competition -- although the Spurs did not need to add another expert shooter nor did they have to add point guard Andre Miller.
33, Martin, has been for the past two along with a half seasons below the radar as an associate of the Minnesota Timberwolves, but his power to score has not gone everywhere. In the Spurs' process, he should get plenty of looks that are open and find a way to do something similar.
The inquiry here is the way many minutes Martin will play. Teams usually do not bring Manu Ginobili off the seat and two grading shooting guards like him, as was the case with Ginobili and Marco Belinelli, but they'll both be in the spinning.
The scales does not always tip in a possible Warriors-Spurs matchup, but depth issues.
