Remember This Catch? The Night Odell Beckham Jr. Blew Up

Sunday, September 13, 2015 9:54:18 AM America/Los_Angeles

It was the catch shared around the Internet.

On Nov. 23, the Giants were playing the Dallas Cowboys and Odell Beckham Jr., a rookie wide receiver with a growing reputation for incredible catches, was falling into the end zone when he reached above his right shoulder, bringing down one of the most acrobatic one-handed catches in N.F.L. history for a 43-yard touchdown.

The catch was so incredible, and unexpected, that no one seemed to care that the Giants went on to lose the game. It made Beckham instantly famous and it was the highlight of a rookie season that saw him finish with 91 catches for 1,305 yards and 12 touchdowns in just 12 games. He was named the N.F.L.’s offensive rookie of the year, made the Pro Bowl, and graced the cover of Madden NFL 16 video game.

Beckham will get another chance against the Cowboys tonight and one player who is likely not looking forward to seeing him is Brandon Carr, the Cowboys cornerback he beat for the touchdown.

Carr does not seem to look back fondly on the play judging from comments he made recently to the New York Post.

“I’m sick of talking about it a year later,” he said. “It’s old. I don’t want to talk about no more, but y’all just keep bringing it up, though.”

In two games last season, Beckham had 14 catches for 180 yards and 4 touchdowns against Dallas but the Giants lost both games. While the fame from the catch is undoubtedly nice, he would likely be willing to trade some personal production for a victory against the Giants’ biggest rival.
