The New Orleans Pelicans started the season with a slew of injuries to key players like Tyreke Evans and Quincy Pondexter. Evans has since returned and Pondexter's status was upgraded to questionable against the Los Angeles Clippers on Sunday.
Pondexter had arthroscopic surgery on his left knee in the offseason and the Pelicans seemed optimistic that he would be returning soon. However according to Yahoo Sports' Shams Charania, Pondexter will have another surgery on his left knee and will now miss the rest of the season. Charania also reports that the Pelicans will look to sign a player like former Utah Jazz forward Elijah Millsap on a 10-day contract to fill in for Pondexter.
Last season, Pondexter joined the Pelicans in a trade with the Memphis Grizzlies and instantly thrived as a three-and-d player. Shooting 43.3 percent from three and averaging 8.9 points, Pondexter was a big part of the Pelicans' postseason success.
Now without Pondexter and with all of their other early season injuries, New Orleans is near the bottom of the West and look to be a long-shot to make the playoffs.
