Chicago Blackhawks forward Patrick Kane is on the lineup sheet for Tuesday night's first preseason game against the Detroit Red Wings. Kane, who was not dressed for the team's intrasquad scrimmage Monday along with other star players, will be in action for the first time since being accused of rape in early August.
Kane remains under investigation in Hamburg, N.Y., but has not been charged. According to reports, the investigation is expected to be reviewed by a grand jury within weeks after initial proceedings slated for Sept. 8 were postponed by the Erie County District Attorney.
The Blackhawks forward addressed the situation publicly for the first time Thursday, stating that he was confident he would absolved of wrongdoing once the facts came to light. The Blackhawks allowed Kane to participate in training camp despite the ongoing investigation with the support of the NHL.
Kane also said that he hadn't been able to skate as much heading into this season as he normally would, spending most of his time working out individually at home.
The Blackhawks are scheduled to open regular season play on Oct. 7 when they'll raise their Stanley Cup banner before taking on the New York Rangers at the United Center.
