Uruguayan striker Bruno Fornaroli scored twice as Melbourne City defeated Central Coast Mariners 3-1 on Sunday to register their first win of the Australian A-League season.

It was the movement and finishing of "El Tuna" that separated the two sides after Patrick Kisnorbo and Nick Fitzgerald scored in the opening quarter-hour. It was only City's second win in six seasons against the Mariners.

Serb Milos Ninkovic sealed a last-gasp 1-0 win for Sydney FC over Western Sydney Wanderers on Saturday to go top of the standings. A delightful overhead dink from Brandon O'Neill allowed Ninkovic to slide home past keeper Andrew Redmayne in the 88th minute in front of 40,539 fans.

Brisbane Roar ended their unbeaten run with a 3-2 loss to Wellington Phoenix in New Zealand. The Roar scored first, then clawed back to 2-2 after 60 minutes, before the home team netted the winner in the 78th minute in an entertaining end-to-end match on Saturday.

Former Socceroo defender David Carney scored with a free kick to give the Newcastle Jets a 1-0 win over champions Melbourne Victory in Newcastle on Friday. Carney broke the deadlock when Leonardo set him up with a free-kick late in the second half.

Perth Glory overcame a torrid schedule to register their first league win of the season, 3-1 over Adelaide at home on Sunday. Glory had lost their first two A-League matches to Central Coast and Wellington before beating Melbourne City in Wednesday's FFA Cup semi-final.

With a third game in eight days the Glory scored through Sidnei Sciola in the first half and Guyon Fernandez in the second. They sealed victory with a third to Diego Castro before an own goal for Adelaide.
