There was a time -- before the championship run -- in which he book on Dirk Nowitzki said he was a spectacular scorer, but not someone you could win a title with as the main guy. He was called soft. He was even deemed pretty unclutch. Then he decimated a hated Miami Heat team and everybody fell in love with Dirk all over again. There is no questioning his greatness. There is no questioning him being a historic player. And there's no questioning him as a champion.
Tuesday night with the game tied at 90 and about 10 seconds left on the clock, the Dallas Mavericks went to Dirk Nowitzki on the right side of the floor. Dirk angled himself against Julius Randle, found his rhythm as he squared up to shoot, and delivered one of the many daggers he's thrown in the clutch over the years. The dagger hit the mark in the chest of the Los Angeles Lakers as Nowitzki stumbled toward the bench.
That's where Kobe Bryant was watching this game and it's where he found himself right next to a familiar foe. Kobe appreciated the greatness and the recognizable clutch moment from one of the NBA's greatest scorers of all-time.
It's the last time we'll get to see Dirk and Kobe together in an NBA game, and it's cool to see the respect the two icons have for each other.
