After placing five previous Newcastle United on Saturday, Chelsea head into Tuesday night's Champions League match against Paris St Germain with renewed self-confidence in their own scoring skills, defenseman Gary Cahill has said.
The Premier League winners of last season have mounted an abysmal defence of the title up to now this season, but turned in arguably their finest attacking operation of the effort against Steve McClaren's relegation-threatened side.
Diego Pedro Costa, Willian and Bertrand Traore warmed up for the midweek European tie against PSG, who knocked Chelsea out from the competition last season.
"We need to really go as far as we can in the Champions League as well as the FA Cup and it is an essential week for the football club," Cahill said.
"We got off to an excellent beginning this weekend and we've arguably the greatest matches of the season coming up for us now, so we go to the week with all the assurance from this game and understanding how significant it's definitely going to be."
"That was pleasing but the dash players were on fire and we played extremely nicely. We did not get everything right because we granted late on, but most things we got right."
